Why it matters

Why Household Bills Tend to Drift Upward

Understanding how recurring costs quietly increase over time is the first step toward doing something about them.

Automatic Renewals and Default Rates

Many Malaysian broadband and home insurance contracts renew automatically at the same rate — even when lower-tier plans or more competitive annual premiums become available. TNB tariff brackets can also be recategorised without a household noticing, particularly after a property renovation or additional metered usage. A structured review identifies whether your current billing category still reflects your actual usage profile.

What a Typical Review Covers

Our advisor will walk through your TNB electricity statement to confirm the tariff block and assess whether your household qualifies for any revised rate. For broadband, we compare your active Unifi or Maxis plan against current plan tiers at your address. For water, we look at the Syabas or SPLASH base charge and verify the usage band. Home insurance is reviewed for coverage adequacy and whether the renewal premium aligns with current market rates. You will need your last two bills for each category — no certified copies required.

What Happens After You Submit

Once your request is received, a nexuspowerfirst MY advisor will contact you by WhatsApp or phone within one business day to schedule a brief 15–20 minute review call. During the call, the advisor will go through each bill category you have flagged, explain what they found, and provide a written summary with any actionable recommendations. There is no obligation to act on any recommendation, and no cost to you at any stage of the process.

A Local Perspective on Malaysian Household Bills

Our advisors understand the specific billing structures in Malaysia — not a generic overseas template.

Ahmad Faisal Rozali

Senior Household Bills Advisor, nexuspowerfirst MY

Ahmad Faisal has spent more than eight years reviewing residential utility and insurance contracts across Peninsular Malaysia. He is familiar with TNB tariff block structures, the Unifi plan tier revisions introduced in recent years, Syabas and SPLASH billing districts, and the renewal cycle patterns of common home insurance providers operating in Malaysia. He works with households in both high-density urban postcodes and suburban residential areas, and tailors each review to the specific billing authority and plan offerings at your address.

"Most households I speak with are on plans that made sense when they signed up two or three years ago. The services have changed — but the bills haven't been revisited. That's usually where we find the biggest gaps."

Straightforward answers about how the service works.

The review is completely free for you as a household. nexuspowerfirst MY is a consumer advisory service — there is no fee charged to you at any stage, including the initial call, the written summary, or any follow-up questions. We may receive a referral fee from a partner provider if you choose to act on a recommendation and switch to a plan through one of our partners. This is disclosed transparently in our . Whether or not you choose to switch has no bearing on the quality or objectivity of the advice you receive.

Our advisors can review the following categories: TNB (Tenaga Nasional Berhad) electricity bills, including tariff block and metered usage; residential broadband plans including Unifi, Maxis Fibre, and TIME plans where available at your postcode; water authority charges from Syabas, SPLASH, or the relevant state water board for your address; and home fire or houseowner insurance policies at annual renewal. If your household has multiple bills across these categories, we can review all of them in a single session. We do not cover vehicle insurance, personal loan repayments, or mobile phone postpaid plans in our current review scope.

To complete the initial form, you only need your name, a WhatsApp-reachable mobile number, your postcode, and the primary bill category you would like reviewed. No documents or account numbers are required at this stage. When the advisor contacts you, they will ask you to share photographs or PDF copies of your two most recent statements for each bill type — these can be sent securely via WhatsApp. You do not need to share any NRIC or bank account information at any point in the process.
